Ensuring Safe Voting for Veterans During the Coronavirus Pandemic

Organizer: Center for American Progress

As Americans prepare to vote in the November election, federal and state officials must take immediate action to ensure the elections are conducted in ways that are safe, secure, and in compliance with public health guidelines during the coronavirus pandemic. That includes an option for every citizen to vote by mail—a process familiar to the nation's military service members and veterans. For decades, millions of service members stationed overseas have voted by mail, a mechanism supported by bipartisan majorities of Congress. This option should now be extended to all Americans. It is especially critical for older and disabled veterans who deserve the opportunity to vote safely from their homes.

Please join the Center for American Progress for an online event with ranking member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Veterans' Affairs, Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT), as well as veterans Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) and Rep. Jason Crow (D-CO). They will discuss lessons learned from how service members stationed abroad vote successfully by mail and the importance of extending a vote-by-mail option to all Americans, including veterans at higher risk of contracting COVID-19.
