Civic Saturday! Black Lives Matter: What Will You Do?

Organizer: The Civic Circle

Civic Saturday, started by Seattle-based Citizen University, seeks to build community and inspire civic action with gatherings that feature music, poetry, civic readings and remarks that explore our shared values and identities as Americans. A civic analog to a faith gathering, Civic Saturday aims to help us make sense of our current moment, and spark deeper engagement in our democracy.

The Civic Circle is honored to bring the first Civic Saturday to Montgomery County, Maryland, where the Black Lives Matter movement has stirred passion and compassion in our diverse community. When so many of our friends, neighbors and essential workers are suffering, and inequities in housing, jobs, health care and education have intensified to the breaking point, many of us feel helpless to fix what's broken. Yet moments of great disruption can also open the way for systemic change. Will we seize the opportunity, and will we hold ourselves and one another accountable? At this Civic Saturday, we will have the opportunity to connect, reflect, and brainstorm ways to marshal our deep civic power.
