Conservative commentator Candace Owens shared a video Wednesday of someone attempting to donate to the official Black Lives Matter organization. Clicking on the "Donate" button on the BLM website redirects the user to an ActBlue URL. A condition on that page reads "ActBlue Charities is a registered charitable organization formed to democratize charitable giving."

ActBlue is the primary fundraising platform for donations to Democratic candidates, PACs, or 501c4 nonprofit organizations. Republicans have an equivalent online fundraising processing tool called WinRed. Donations at either of these sites go directly to the intended recipient; they are not pooled and then distributed across candidates. ActBlue charges a 3.95% transaction fee on every contribution.

Research actually shows that most Americans neither want nor need the abundance of advice. While the vast majority of Americans celebrate Thanksgiving, relatively few want to talk about politics over the holiday. A 2022 Axios/Ipsos poll found that 77 percent of Americans believe Thanksgiving is not the right time for political discussions. Somewhat similarly, a 2023 Quinnipiac poll found only 29 percent of Americans say they are looking forward to discussing politics at Thanksgiving, less than half the number who say they are hoping to avoid discussing it.

While this can be a source of joy, it can also bring anxiety and fear. Yet, in this season when many of our traditions celebrate “miracles,” there is potential for healing and transformation, provided the will is there and the circumstances are right.
