If you need a new hobby, just clean up your state’s voter rolls like this guy
Happy Leap Day! Don't know what you're doing with your extra 24 hours, but folks in South Carolina are headed to the polls. South Carolina ranks 29th on Wallet Hub's new list of most representative states in the country. The three states that have already cast their votes also failed to crack the top 10. So which states' demographics match up the best with the general population? (And should maybe be states where voting starts.)
Apparently, there's a guy in Georgia making it his personal mission to clean the voter rolls. Fun hobby. Also, the state's bright-light voting machines got the all-clear from a judge, so people can vote on Monday. Democrats there and in Missouri are pushing to restore felons' voting rights when they are released from prison, but that probably won't happen because they're both red states.
A new study says almost 400,000 transgender voters could have problems this year thanks to strict ID laws. Meanwhile, Kentucky and Missouri are looking to toughen up their voter ID requirements.
Four other quick things you definitely want to know about:
- Rep. Doug Lamborn, R-Colo., doesn't think people of color are smart enough to know whether or not voter suppression is a thing. Way too "gullible" for that.
- Gerrymandering's impact goes beyond district lines. Here's how it affects Medicaid coverage.
- MTV is leading a charge to open more polling places on college campuses.
- Voters are worried about election security, but what else is new.
